The Great Church Search

Who knew that finding a church home would be so hard?

We've been in Sacramento now for three and a half months. We've visited many churches -- some more than once -- but we're still no closer to finding a church home than we were when we started.

It's a little bit disheartening, to tell the truth. We were, and still are, very much looking forward to joining a body of believers, getting involved, and making some friends. Seems like a good thing to want, right? But for whatever reason, God hasn't led us to stay at any place we've visited yet.

It doesn't seem like it should be difficult. . . after all, as long as the doctrine is sound, shouldn't we be able to adapt to the style (even if we're not crazy about it)? We're starting to wonder if we ought to settle for one of the "okay" churches we've visited and stop looking for something that may not exist. Then again, we both believe that being part of a dynamic church plays a major role in our spiritual growth and the health of our marriage. I've been stuck in a place before where I dreaded church every Sunday because I knew I wasn't growing -- and it wasn't because the doctrine was necessarily lacking. "Style," and more importantly grace, can mean the difference between being edified and spurred on in your faith or becoming discouraged and cynical.

So, the church search continues. We know that solid chuch fellowship is something God wants us to have, so we are waiting and relying on Him to provide it for us . . . and trying to be sure we don't lose our enthusiasm for the search in the meantime. :)
